Whole Community Catechesis
Since the time of the Second Vatican Council, the Church has placed an emphasis of the family as the Domestic Church. Parents are truly the primary educators of their children and we here at IHM know that when we provide a Faith Formation program, it is to enhance and support the faith formation that happens within the home. That is the philosophy behind our program.
In coordination with the Office of Evangelization, Immaculate Heart of Mary moved to a Whole Community Catechesis model a few years ago and has found great success. Whole Community Catechesis attempts to unite the family by having each age group talking about the same topic each week. That means there has been considerable collaboration between the Children’s Faith Formation program, the Junior High and High School youth groups, as well as the RCIA and Adult Faith Formation programs. When the 3rdgraders are talking about the sacrament of Baptism, so will those adults in RCIA and at Our Catholic Journey, as well as the kindergartners. This is an effort to promote discussion within the family and allow the family, together, to grow in their faith.
We look forward to the opportunity to support you, the parents and guardians of our children, in your family’s journey of Faith. Our prayer is that we all might continue to move forward in our Faith, always growing closer to Christ.
